The American Youth Policy Forum (AYPF) will present a webinar on “Building Pathways to Postsecondary Education for Youth in the Foster Care System,” discussing the challenges of navigating postsecondary opportunities for older youth, ages 16-24, who are or have been involved in the foster care system. These youth are more likely to experience social-emotional challenges, physical health risks, and academic difficulties and need multiple supports that encourage success in all areas as they transition into adulthood. The webinar will highlight the report “Connected by 25.” AYPF is a nonprofit, nonpartisan professional development organization based in Washington, DC, providing learning opportunities for policymakers, practitioners, and researchers working on youth and education issues at the national, state, and local levels. The National Secondary Transition Technical Assistance Center (NSTTAC) will host a webinar, “Common Core State Standards and Transition Think Tank,” on December 9, 2013 (rescheduled from December 2, 2013) on the possible connections between Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and transition-focused skill development (e.g., self-determination, student involvement in the IEP/ ILP, career awareness, social and communication skills) for unit and lesson planning and IEP goal development.
